3 Tips For Practicing Yoga at Home
Practicing yoga at home can be very calming. And if you're on The Ritual Rug, don't be surprised if your pets want to join you as well (it's a thing ;)
If you haven't practiced yoga at home before, here are three tips to get you started:
1. Something is better than nothing.
You don't need to carve out an hour practice to get benefits from yoga; focusing on your breath for even one minute can work wonders- and yes that counts as yoga! The hardest part of doing a home practice is getting started; unfurl your mat and you've overcome the biggest challenge.
2. Create an inviting space with limited distractions.
Try to create a space of calm that will invite you to return. If possible, close the door, turn off your phone, light a candle, spritz the air, or play some music that you find calming.
3. Listen to your body.
Take it slow and warm up before attempting moves that may require being quite open. Just because you do something in class, doesn't mean it's the right time to do it at home.
One of the best things about a home practice is that you're able to cater to what your body and spirit need in that particular moment. Check in with yourself and you'll be surprised that you may know exactly what poses will serve you best today.
